A 23-year-old Sisters woman and her two-week-old infant were involved in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 20 in Tumalo on Tuesday, January 23.
According to Deschutes County Sheriff's Office reports, a cell phone caller reported an injury motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 20 west and Cook Avenue. Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded along with Bend Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).
According to police, it appears that Sara Connor was westbound on Highway 20 approaching Cook Avenue in her 1992 Ford Explorer. William Riggs, 64, was on Cook Avenue at the stop sign waiting to turn left on to Highway 20 east bound toward Bend. Riggs was driving a 2005 Chevrolet van.
Riggs pulled out in front of Connor and the vehicles collided, police report. Riggs was checked at the scene by ambulance personnel but not transported. Connor was checked at the scene by ambulance personnel and transported by ground ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with non-life-threatening injuries.
The infant was in a safety seat and was apparently uninjured.
Both vehicles sustained significant front damage and had to be towed from the scene. The traffic on Highway 20 West was slow and congested for about two hours. The investigation on this accident is still in progress.
