Boys' basketball team snaps losing streak

The boys' basketball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 65-29 victory at home over the La Pine Hawks on Friday, February 2.

The Outlaws missed a lot of easy shots in the first quarter but kept the game close. At the end of the period, Sisters trailed the Hawks by three at 12-15.

Coach Rand Runco told The Nugget that he felt the Outlaws were beating La Pine everywhere except on the scoreboard.

Sisters continued to focus on their defense and outscored La Pine 17-4 in the second quarter. At the half Sisters had pushed to a 29-19 advantage.

The Outlaws continued to pressure the Hawks and held them to just four points in the third quarter. By the close of the third period, Sisters held a 14-point lead.

Dan Purvis piled up 14 points in the fourth quarter to help seal the Outlaw's victory.

Sisters had six turnovers for the night and forced La Pine to turn the ball over 20 times.

Runco said, "Each week something gets better. This week we offensively executed better, and we cut down our number of turnovers."

Runco praised Nate Jackson and Jeff Sampson for their excellent team leadership.

Dan Purvis led the Outlaws with 16 points and Nate Jackson added 13. Zach Lange and Mike Reeve combined for 12 rebounds.

The Outlaws will travel to Cottage Grove on Tuesday, February 6 and then head to Pleasant Hill on Friday, February 9. Sisters will play their final two games at home, with a matchup against Marist on Tuesday, February 13 and then against Junction City on Friday, February 16.
