A Sisters teen was arrested for drunk driving and reckless driving after his car clipped a guy wire on a Central Electric Cooperative (CEC) power pole on Monday, causing a power outage over part of Sisters.
According to Deschutes County Sheriff's Office reports, the crash occurred just after 3 p.m. The driver, a 17-year-old male, was observed swerving back and forth across North Locust Street before losing control of his vehicle. The vehicle struck a guy wire to a power pole and some rocks on the west side of the roadway.
Police report that the driver was observed by citizens fleeing the vehicle on foot after the crash. The driver returned to the vicinity and was detained. The driver sustained minor injuries and was examined by Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District medics.
Residents in Sisters reported power outages. CEC responded to check the power pole for damage. The pole was not damaged and power was later restored to the area. Sisters Public Works responded to the scene and assisted with debris removal and traffic control.
The juvenile driver was arrested for DUII and reckless driving. His blood alcohol content was later determined to be a .16. He was cited and released to his guardians in Sisters.
