Donald Webster Howick of Sisters died on February 5 of a heart attack. He was 84. A memorial service will be held this spring.
He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on January 22, 1923, to parents Harry C. and Pauline Hope Howick.
He studied architecture and engineering at the University of Michigan and served in World War II as a B-17 bomber pilot. He worked as an architect in Los Angeles for 20 years before transferring to Portland in 1969. He later worked for the city of Tigard, then for Washington County as a plans examiner for industrial and commercial building and remodeling.
He married his wife, Sally Carter Howick in Los Angeles in 1947. He served on many boards for churches and building commissions, and worked with Habitat for Humanity and in the SMART reading program.
He enjoyed tennis, golf, fly fishing, gardening, camping and his family.
He is survived by his wife Sally Howick; daughters Nancy and her husband Greg Belair of Tigard and Kathy and her husband John Gartland of Eugene; sister Lynn Howick of Los Angeles, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jack.
Memorial contributions may be made to muscular dystrophy charities, Sisters Habitat for Humanity and Hospice of Redmond and Sisters.
