Driver arrested after wild ride

A 38-year-old Woodburn man was arrested in Sisters on Tuesday afternoon, February 6, after a wild - and potentially deadly - run on Highway 20 westbound between Tumalo and Sisters.

According to Deschutes County Sheriff's Office reports, at least two 911 calls came in Tuesday afternoon reporting an erratic driver on the highway. The driver, later identified as Tab Jerome Gay, was allegedly weaving all over the road. Witnesses reported that his vehicle crossed all the way over the opposing lanes of traffic and onto the gravel of the far shoulder, nearly flipping over as he returned to the pavement.

Gay allegedly narrowly missed hitting two vehicles head on.

A sheriff's deputy, backed up by Black Butte Ranch and Forest Service police officers, contacted Gay at Sisters Pumphouse. The man was found to be intoxicated and in possession of controlled substances for which he had no prescription. The man also allegedly had a small amount of cocaine.

Gay was arrested and taken to Deschutes County Jail on charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance and also on a probation violation out of Clackamas County.

He remained lodged in jail at the end of the week.
