Wrestlers compete in middle school tourney

A small contingent of Sisters Middle School wrestlers traveled to Crook County on Saturday to compete in the district wrestling tournament.

Team Captain Ryan Haney led the charge, pinning each of his opponents through the 85-pound bracket before scoring a 10-0 victory in the finals. Haney allowed his opponents only one point all day, going 4-0 with three pins to win the tournament championship.

Josh O'Brien and Jake Miller both lost in the first round and had to take the long road through the consolation bracket. On the verge of elimination, both O'Brien and Miller had to battle through three straight wins but then lost in the consolation semifinals.

In the placing round Miller scored another victory to take fifth place, finishing the day with four wins and two losses. O'Brien lost a tough battle in his placing match to finish sixth, with three wins and three losses on the day.

Devon Prescott, Ben Chappell and Seth Flanders also competed for the Outlaws but found tough competition in their brackets and did not place. Overall it was a good showing for the small Outlaws team, placing three of their six wrestlers.

On Saturday night, Haney traveled to Portland to compete in the 31st Annual Northwest Junior Collegiate Wrestling Association Championships. Representing his USA Wrestling Club in Bend, the Central Oregon Stud Club, Ryan won his qualifying pool to advance.

Haney lost in the semifinals but then scored his third pin of the day to grab the third place medal.
