Girls' golf team notches win, boys place second

The girls' golf team defeated Cottage Grove by 79 strokes to win the golf tournament at Middlefield on Tuesday, April 3.

The Lady Outlaws finished with a team score of 346, and Cottage Grove (CG) was runner up with 425. La Pine placed third just three strokes back from CG at 428. Marist, Sweet Home and Creswell all had incomplete teams.

Lindsay Reeve of Sisters was the tournament medalist with scores of 35-41-76. Alexis Wainwright carded an 86, and Shelby Ross was just two strokes back at 88. Claire Mutchler scored a 97, and Meghan Crowder finished with 108.

Both Ross and Mutchler recorded their best scores for the year.

Jessica Little and Emily Rawls also played in the match but their scores of 113 and 120, respectively, did not count.

Coach Mary Flande told The Nugget that the Lady Outlaws were a little rusty coming off of spring break but she was pleased with their tournament score and their outing at Middlefield.

"This course was a little on the short side but still very difficult and tricky at times," Flande said. "The girls are working hard and getting better each week. I think the time some of these kids put in over the break really paid benefits for them on the course today."

In boys' team action the Outlaws placed second at the golf tournament held at the Tokatee Golf Course on Wednesday, April 4.

Marist took first with a team score of 302, and Sisters was runner up at 325. Junction City took third (343), Cottage Grove fourth (352), Elmira fifth (395) and La Pine rounded out the scores at 443.

Coach Jeff Barton said his team finished with a very good score but noted that Marist is an exceptionally good golf team.

"I think the rest of the conference is playing for second place in the league," said Barton.

Robbie Pitts of Marist was the tournament medalist with a score of 71, one under par. Michael Reeve of Sisters took second place with an even par 72. Jonathan Standen carded an 82, Evan Mitchell an 85, Billy Jacobson an 86 and Cody Farr-Baenzenger finished with a 96.
