News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws lost both their tennis matches this week, but the squad continues to improve and gain experience with each match.
Sisters lost 3-5 to Junction City at home on Thursday, April 5, but the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles all won their individual matches. Stephanie Napier (No. 2 singles) defeated Kaley Hassner in straight sets 6-2, 6-0, and Sara Brown (No. 3 singles) earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Aubrey Slaeker.
Coach Marty Dale told The Nugget that both Napier and Brown played very well.
"Stephanie changed up her game, was more aggressive at the net, which was effective in accomplishing her win," said Dale. "Sara was solid on the court and never gave up."
Rita Gonzalez (No. 4 singles) defeated Paige Limhouse 7-6, 4-6 and 6-2.
A day later Sisters lost 1-7 to 5A Crook County in a non-league match.
The No. 4 duo of Bethany Backman and Taylor Delgudici were the only Outlaws' to win in the match. Backman and Delgudici defeated Jessica Farrel and Kim Pedonson 6-0, 6-2.
"Bethany and Taylor played well together," said Dale. "The key to their win was their consistent serving game."
Dale told The Nugget that the competition against Crook County was much higher than the Outlaws had seen in the past and she felt her players rose to that level.
"They stepped up and worked hard. It was a good learning experience for them," said Dale.
To prepare for upcoming matches, the Outlaws plan to work hard on their serving. Dale also plans to shift players around and try some new combinations in the doubles area.
Sisters will host Marist at home on April 11.
