Boys' baseball team loses to Pleasant Hill

The young Outlaws baseball squad continues to struggle against the more seasoned teams in the league. The team suffered a 3-9 loss at Pleasant Hill on Tuesday, April 10.

The Outlaws were hopeful in the first inning after they took a lead over the Billies. Tanner Hodges reached first base on a walk, and then Levi Rowe bunted for a hit. With runners on first and second Nate Jackson got on base due to a fielding error, and both Hodges and Rowe scored. Hayden Mayea reached first on a throwing error which scored Jackson and gave the Outlaws a 3-0 lead.

But that was the end of their scoring for the rest the game.

Pleasant Hill put two runs on the scoreboard in the fifth and then added seven more runs in the sixth to secure the victory.

Jarred Hasskamp pitched five and one third innings for the Outlaws. Hasskamp struck out five batters and walked three. Taylor Davenport and Nate Jackson each pitched an inning to finish the game

"We need to find a way to believe we can play for seven innings and close out games," said Coach Steve Hodges. "Jarred kept us in the game. He pitched well and gave us opportunities to win, but we needed to support him with more hits. We had an opportunity to extend the lead to 5-0 but didn't hit the ball when runners were in scoring positions."

Sisters left four runners on base and a couple of them were in critical situations. At one point in the game, the Outlaws had a runner on third with only one out and another time a runner on second with only one out. In both situations they were unable to score.

The Outlaws will travel to Junction City on Wednesday, April 18.
