The boys' golf team is holding its own and continues to maintain second place in the Sky-Em standings.
The Outlaws played at Shadow Hills on Monday, April 9, under windy and rainy weather conditions and finished at runner-up with a team score of 347. Marist won the tournament at 316 and holds the first-place spot in the conference. The Spartans had four of the top five scores in the match. Junction City took third at 370, Cottage Grove (389), Elmira (408) and La Pine finished with 461.
Evan Mitchell led the Outlaws with an 84. Jonathan Standen carded an 87, Michael Reeve and Cody Farr-Baenzenger 88, and Billy Jacobson shot a 94.
Coach Jeff Barton told The Nugget he felt his team "played okay" considering the rough conditions.
Farr-Baenzenger was more descriptive about the conditions.
"The weather was vicious! The rain was so bad my vision was blurred," said Cody.
The following day Sisters was at Eagle Crest for the Madras Invitational. McKenzie High School won the tournament at 331. Sisters was just three stokes back at 334 for a second-place finish, and Madras took third at 369. Tillamook and Seaside finished with scores of 377, and Oakridge was nine shots back at 386.
Michael Reeve had a good round with a score of 76 to tie Casey King of McKenzie for co-medalist of the tournament.
Freshman Farr-Baenzenger was pleased with his performance, especially on the 14th hole.
"It was a par four, and I punched it out of a plethora of trees and on to the green to save par!" he said.
Other individual scores for Sisters were Farr-Baenzenger with an 84, Evan Mitchell two strokes back with an 86, Standen at 88 and Jacobson with a 93.
The Outlaws wrapped up their week with the Sisters Invitational at Aspen Lakes on Thursday, April 12. Sisters took first-place honors with a team score of 331, 23 strokes ahead of Madras, the runner-up. Sweet Home was third with a score of 388.
Michael Reeve carded a 77 and was the tournament medalist. Mitchell and Farr-Baenzenger both shot an 83, and Jacobson and Standen each carded an 88.
Barton told The Nugget that the cold and blustery weather conditions were pretty severe and made it difficult for players to score a good round.
The Outlaws will play at Mallard Creek in Sweet Home today, Wednesday, April 18.
