News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The girls' softball team defeated Pleasant Hill (PH) 9-5 in their first Sky-Em league game of the season.
Sisters scored in every inning but one. The second inning produced the biggest results. The Lady Outlaws scored five runs on five base hits. Key consecutive hits came from Courtney Overstreet, Jessi Heath, Hillary Renz and Ashley Huber. Jenna Sneva also singled in the inning.
The Lady Outlaws finished with 11 base hits, and according to Coach Tom Mauldin 10 of those hits were driven hard.
Overstreet continued her amazing hitting streak, collecting three more hits in the game, including two singles and a double. Overstreet has been on base 17 of her last 21 times at bat and over the last six games is hitting .760. Courtney is batting a team high .450 for the season.
Sophomore Renz, nicknamed Legs, had a double and two singles and drove in two runs. Becky Bremer doubled and singled.
Sam Stoneback recorded eight strikeouts, walked one and scattered seven base hits.
"Sam had another strong performance," said Mauldin. "She also made several impressive fielding plays."
Mauldin said, "Defensively, we made four errors and only one of PH's runs were earned. But, we played aggressively and improved overall. The team looked good in all aspects of the game, especially hustle and reaction time. It's such a small field and reacting quickly is such a big part of softball. It was also huge to see so many bats working well."
The Lady Outlaws will host Junction City on Wednesday, April 18 and Cottage Grove two days later.
