Golf teams battle Mother Nature

The boys and girls golf teams played in the rain, the hail and the wind - and sometimes all three at the same time - last week.

The girls golf team took first place at the Elmira Golf Tournament held at Diamond Woods Golf Course on Tuesday, April 17. The Lady Outlaws finished with a team score of 409. Cottage Grove took second (455), and

La Pine placed third (504).

Alexis Wainwright carded an 89 for Sisters to lead the Outlaws to their first-place finish. Lindsay Reeve was four strokes back with 93. Claire Mutchler scored a 110, Shelby Ross 117, Stephanie Cole 122, Jessica Little 128 and Emily Rawls finished with a 134.

"The weather conditions were just awful," said Coach Mary Flande. "This was a tough track for the girls, and the golf course provided a very good challenge for the team. There were lots of hazards and narrow approaches on the front nine, and it was very hilly and difficult on the back. We didn't play as well as we would have liked, but I'm confident the kids will bounce back at our next

tournament."

The boys team took third place (336) at the Mallard Creek Invitational on Wednesday, April 18. Lebanon won the tournament with a score of 305. McMinville was runner up with a team score of 321. South Albany placed fourth (346), Dallas (354), West Salem (359), North Salem (362), Junction City (375) and Sweet Home rounded out the scoring

with 394.

Michael Reeve led the Outlaws with an 80. Cody Farr-Baenzinger carded an 85, Evan Mitchell an 88 and Jonathan Standen a 93.

Coach Jeff Barton said, "The conditions were just terrible. I think as the weather improves, we will get

better."
