Sisters celebrates Arbor Day

A new greenspire linden tree now adorns the parking area in front of Sisters City Hall.

The tree was donated by C & C Nursery Sales as part of a celebration of Arbor Day. The event held Tuesday, April 24, was celebrated by several classes from Sisters Elementary School.

Each student received a ponderosa pine seedling to take home and plant. The seedlings were donated by the Sisters Ranger District and were distributed by Anna Pepperling of the Forest Service.

Oregon Department of Forestry Community Forester Katie Lompa assisted with the planting.

Mayor Brad Boyd read a proclamation declaring Arbor Day and dumped the first shovelful of dirt into the hole prepared for the tree.

Miss Boelens kindergarten class offered up a poem titled "Trees Are..."

Trees are good for cats to climb and hide away from dogs/ Trees are Great!/ Trees are good for treehouses and squirrels to live in/ Trees are good for sitting under for the shade on a very hot day/ Trees grow from a seed to a bush to a tree/ Trees are great for climbing/ Trees are good for maple syrup/ Trees are good for the Earth/ Trees are good to plant/ Trees are good for ziplines and treehouses.

Trees are good for making paper/ Trees are good for hanging laundry on to dry/ Trees are good for getting on a branch and reading a book/ Trees are for us to climb/ Trees are good for hanging upside-down/ Trees have pinecones/ Trees give us air/ Trees are good to watch birds in them/ Trees grow apples/ Trees are good for squirrels to live in/

TREES ARE GOOD FOR US!
