News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Volunteers at Sisters Community Garden are busy embellishing the gathering spot with final touches in preparation for grand opening festivities on Saturday afternoon, June 2.
The ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for 2 p.m., followed by welcoming remarks by past co-facilitators Katie Cavanaugh and Sue Stafford at 2:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend and wander through the garden.
A live auction of scarecrow creations by local artists is planned.
"Artists in town are designing and constructing big scarecrows however they want. We've heard some wonderful ideas of what they're doing," said Stafford.
Fifty percent of the money raised will go to the artist and 50 percent will go to the garden.
"We want the artists to get something," said Stafford. "They're supporting us; we want to support them."
As an added feature children from A Joyful Noise Learning Center will sing a garden song, and cookies and lemonade will be served.
"We want the whole town to show up," said Stafford.
The community garden is located at 354 E. Adams Ave.
