City moves recycling center to new spot

Recyclers in Sisters will have to start taking their glass, cardboard, plastic and other recyclables to the industrial park -though not yet to the new city recycling facility.

"Because of the construction at the Fire Hall, we had to relocate a little earlier than we expected," said public works operations director Gary Frazee.

The city recycling bins have been moved to a vacant lot owned by G.J. Miller, who is building the new city recycling facility. The new location is at 328 W. Sisters Park Dr.

"I guess the good news is that it's one block east of the new (permanent) location, so it will get people used to going to the new location," Frazee said.

G.J. Miller has the contract for the new permanent facility, which will be staffed by an employee paid for by Deschutes County. According to Frazee, construction is moving along at a pace that may allow the facility to open a little earlier than promised, though Miller has until September 14 to complete the project.
