Girl Scouts raise money washing cars

Fifth, sixth and seventh graders from the Sisters Girl Scouts Junior Troop spent most of the day last Saturday scrubbing and shining cars. The car wash fund-raiser behind Napa Auto Parts in the Three Wind Shopping Center parking lot helped to fill the scouts' coffers.

The goal was to raise ample funds for the Sisters Girl Scouts Service Unit, which encompasses both Sisters and Camp Sherman, to purchase camping equipment.

"The money raised is going to help all the Girl Scouts in Sisters (and Camp Sherman)," said Service Unit Manager for the Sisters Area Girl Scouts Evelyn Brush.

All troops within the service area will be able to borrow the gear when they want to go on a camping trip, Brush told The Nugget.

"We don't have a tent. We need to get a camp stove, pots and pans and things like that," she said.

Matt Krause, owner of Sisters Auto Detailing, sponsored the event for the scouts, providing all of the advertising with the help of several other Sisters auto-related businesses.

"He (Krause) provided all of the equipment, the towels, the brushes, the soap and all of that stuff," said Brush.

Saturday's fund-raiser was the third car wash Krause has sponsored for Sisters area youth groups this summer.

"What I like is that they can come and organize their own little project, plus earn money for their organization. They do the work and make the money," Krause said.

Krause would like to sponsor car washes in September and October. Interested youth groups can call him at 549-8114.
