News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Diane Bremer will take over as the head coach for the girls volleyball team this year, after eight years as assistant coach at Sisters High School.
Bremer began her coaching career in Sisters in 1996, as the junior varsity coach under Brad Bulloch and most recently worked alongside Chris Crosby.
Prior to coaching at Sisters, Bremer coached eight years at Molalla at the junior varsity level and two years at North Clackamas Christian School before that.
Bremer started playing volleyball when she was in sixth grade and played through high school. She went on to play for Warner Pacific College as an outside hitter. After college, Bremer played on several city league and co-ed teams.
Bremer is the lone returning coach in the volleyball program this year. Nicolette Callan will join her as the junior varsity coach, and Kelsey Price will take over as the freshman coach.
"I feel really fortunate to have these guys on board," said Bremer. "They will contribute a lot of energy and player experience. Nicolette was Player of the Year two times at SHS and has a great work ethic. Kelsey was a four-year setter and will bring good expertise to our program in that area."
Bremer is excited about this year's team and the opportunity to coach at the varsity level.
"We really have a talented group of girls, and the roster is deep this year. I'm fortunate to have watched these girls come through on my team and now have (the) opportunity to work with them as varsity players. That's really exciting," said Bremer. "I'm really looking forward to the new position, but I'm realizing how much greater the responsibility is, especially the administrative part of running a program."
Bremer told The Nugget she also appreciates the support the team gets from the community.
"I like how the volleyball community in this town is very much like a family," said Bremer. "We've experienced highs and lows together, been there for each other through tragedy and have found the strength to pull together and rise above."
Bremer and her team will open league with a jamboree at Cottage Grove and get an opportunity to see what the league competition looks like.
