News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
A Sisters youth and a teen from Redmond were arrested on Monday in connection with a series of arson fires in the Cloverdale fire district.
According to Deschutes County Sheriff's Office reports, deputies responded on Monday at about 9 a.m. to an assist call from the Cloverdale fire department in the area of Hinkle Butte Drive and Lake Drive in the Sisters area regarding a suspicious fire.
When a sheriff's deputy arrived he located two additional fire starts in fairly close proximity to the originally reported fire.
These three fires ranged in size from approximately nine square feet to 18 square feet and were smoldering, not aggressively burning, at the time of discovery. Cloverdale firefighters ensured that all three fire locations were completely put out.
Further investigation led to a residence nearby where two juvenile males (one 13-year-old male lives in the Sisters area and one 14-year-old male lives in Redmond) were contacted regarding this incident. After interviews were completed both males admitted to involvement in starting the fires.
Both males were transported to the Deschutes County Juvenile Detention Facility where they were lodged on three counts of Arson, one count of Criminal Trespass, and three counts of Criminal Mischief each.
