Habitat for Humanity founder to visit Sisters

Millard Fuller, founder of Habitat for Humanity and The Fuller Center for Housing, will be the keynote speaker at the 8:30 a.m. service of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 68825 Brooks Camp Rd. and at the 10 a.m. service at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 386 N. Fir St., on September 30.

Fuller will preach at both services and will attend the dedication of the first Sisters Habitat for Humanity subdivision at 2 p.m., at 920 E. Cascade Ave. There will be a fund-raising dinner at 6 p.m. at FivePine Conference Center. Dinner is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets can be reserved by calling 549-1193.

After over 28 years in leadership at Habitat for Humanity, Fuller founded The Fuller Center for Housing, a Christian non-profit organization, "to promote collaborative and innovative partnerships with individuals and organizations in an unrelenting quest to provide adequate shelter for all people in need worldwide."

Chapters of The Fuller Center, called Covenant Partners, are established and growing in the United States and in more than 15 countries internationally.

Fuller was inspired to begin the affordable housing movement in the 1960s after giving up his self-made fortune for a life of simplicity and obedience to God. The first homes built under his leadership were constructed with homeowners contributing "sweat equity."

The Fuller Center for Housing is an ecumenical, Christian, non-profit organization dedicated to building and rehabilitating homes for people in need. For more information visit http://www.fullercenter.org.
