Outlaws host Sisters Invitational Volleyball Tournament

Sixteen teams from around the state gathered for the 2007 Sisters Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, September 22. Many of the top 10 4A teams were represented at the annual event.

Sisters finished at 4-2 in pool play. The Lady Outlaws got off to a great start with 21-11 and 21-10 victories over Tillamook. Sisters went on to defeat La Salle 21-13 and 21-13.

Sisters final opponent in pool play was Vale. Vale hit the court fired up, full of energy and ready to play. Vale beat Sisters 21-17 and 23-21.

"The loss to Vale put us second in our pool," said Coach Diane Bremer, "even though Vale only got one win each off of Tillamook and La Salle. After the win/loss record you look at head-to-head and that made Vale the first place team."

The Lady Outlaws went on to play Henley, the number one seed from another pool. Sisters beat the Hornets in game one 25-18. Henley took game two 25-22. Henley won the third game 15-12, in a nail-biter that was intense up to the very end.

Bremer noted the play of Emily Douglass in game three.

"Midgame, Emily came in off the bench and scored three consecutive points from the service line," said Bremer. "And in a 15-point game three points is a lot."

Bremer added: "We started making some errors coming down the finish line, and there was no room for them. Overall, it felt really good to play Henley as well as we did. It's clear to see we can compete with the top four and five teams in the state. If we can learn to finish well, we'll be on our way."

Burns finished as the tournament champion and defeated Estacada in three games to take home the tournament trophy. Junction City was the consolation winner.

Earlier in the week on Tuesday, September 18, Sisters defeated Pleasant Hill in a five game battle. Scores were 25-27, 25-20, 22-25, 27-25 and 15-11.

The Lady Outlaws will head to La Pine on Tuesday, September 25 and then will host Cottage Grove at home on Thursday, September 27.
