Sheriff's deputies arrested a Salem man on a laundry list of charges after catching him in an allegedly stolen vehicle in Sisters on Saturday night.
On October 13, at about 10 p.m., the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office received a report of a possible stolen vehicle eastbound on Highway 20 West from the Aumsville area.
The stolen vehicle - a 1996 black Honda Civic, stolen from Keizer - was reported to be operated by 23-year-old Kyle Erik Madrid of Salem. Madrid was also wanted for a Marion County parole violation.
Deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office and a trooper from the Oregon State Police responded from the Sisters area to attempt to locate the stolen vehicle. According to sheriff's office reports, at about 10:12 p.m., Deschutes County 9-1-1 dispatch received a report of a DUII on the same vehicle. The vehicle was reportedly being driven erratically eastbound near milepost 73 on Highway 20.
At 10:20 p.m., a deputy spotted the stolen vehicle eastbound near milepost 94. Another deputy from the sheriff's office attempted to stop the vehicle just west of the Tollgate entrance. The stolen vehicle was traveling at speeds of nearly 100 miles per hour and did not stop.
According to police, the suspect vehicle continued at a high rate of speed toward the City of Sisters. The suspect vehicle attempted to turn onto S. Fir Street from Cascade Avenue but was traveling too fast to negotiate the corner.
The vehicle struck a curb causing major damage to the car and disabling it. The driver fled the scene on foot. He was taken into custody in an alley east of the crashed stolen car.
The suspect, identified as Madrid, was uninjured and was taken into custody with the assistance of OSP and Black Butte Ranch Police. OSP assisted with the investigation and arrest.
Madrid was lodged at Deschutes County Jail, charged with parole violation (a "no-bail" warrant); unauthorized use of a vehicle; attempt to elude, vehicle; attempt to elude, on foot; hit and run; reckless driving; DUII; and driving while suspended, violation. Bail was set at $20,000.
