News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
A 19-year-old Hines woman was seriously hurt in a two-vehicle wreck on Highway 20 just east of Sisters at 12:35 p.m., on Friday, October 12.
According to Deschutes County Sheriff's Office reports, Tomas Aniceto Garcia was waiting to turn his 1994 Dodge pickup truck onto Jordan Road when the crash occurred. Witnesses said Aniceto Garcia had signaled his turn and was stopped in the eastbound travel lane waiting for westbound traffic on Highway 20 to clear so he could turn.
An unidentified passenger car passed Aniceto Garcia on the right and remained on the pavement.
Emily Jascha Mues was also driving eastbound on Highway 20 and apparently directly behind the unidentified vehicle that passed Aniceto Garcia on the right side. Mues collided with the right rear portion of the utility bed and frame of Aniceto Garcia's pickup.
Mues' Ford Escort sustained heavy front end damage, and Mues was seriously injured, sheriff's investigators reported.
Personnel from the Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District and Air Life of Oregon responded. Mues was transported to St. Charles in Bend via Air Life. Her condition remained unknown at press time. The occupants of the Dodge pickup were not injured.
Highway 20 west was closed for about one hour until the vehicles could be towed from the scene. Deputies were assisted by the Oregon State Police, Black Butte Ranch Police Department and Oregon Department of Transportation.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
