News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
When they got the word that Siesta Suntan owner Pat Vantress was going to retire, there seemed only one thing for Hair Caché owners Jeff and Theresa Robertson to do: buy the business and put an archway between the adjacent businesses.
"It just seemed like a natural fit," said Theresa. "The 'Block of Beauty.'"
The tanning salon will keep its name, but there will be some changes.
"We're going to bring in Birkenstocks," said Theresa. "That's going to be a big one.
"We're going to have swimsuits for all body types," she said, searching for the right way to describe her purpose.
"Not just itty-bitty bikinis, I guess," Jeff chimed in.
They'll also bring in men's board shorts and swimsuits and possibly some luggage lines.
"We've got so much ordered," Theresa said. "We're going to really be loaded for bear when the cruise season starts."
That season is just around the corner, as Sisters area residents flee the encroaching snows for tropical climes. The Robertsons want to become a kind of vacation headquarters for those folks. They can get their base tan going before hitting the southern sun and outfit themselves with clothing and gear. And they can stroll through the arch and get a hair cut - or get their nails done.
"We've got a new nail technician," Theresa said. "She's going to be in the transition space - the breezeway."
Professional hair care products will be available to all who visit.
The goal is to create a festive atmosphere - a "sun-and-fun shop."
Theresa said she hopes that "when people start thinking about their vacation, they think of here."
Hair Caché and Siesta Suntan are located at 152 E. Main Ave., 549-8771.
