Man arrested after BBR crash

Black Butte Ranch (BBR) police officers arrested a 25-year-old man for drunk driving and reckless driving after a crash on the Ranch that left the man injured.

According to BBR police reports, officers from the Black Butte Ranch Police Department and units from the Black Butte Ranch Fire Department responded to a report of an injury motor vehicle crash in the area of Bishops Cap and Ponderosa Street on Saturday, October 20, at about 6 p.m.

Police found that Ross A. McEver was traveling southbound on Bishops Cap in a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. McEvers reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crossed a bike path and crashed head-on into a ponderosa pine tree, causing extensive front-end damage to the Jetta.

The top portion of the tree snapped off and fell onto the top the vehicle, trapping McEvers inside. With assistance from bystanders the tree was removed and McEvers was able to exit the vehicle.

Black Butte Ranch Fire Department Paramedics transported McEvers to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

McEvers allegedly attempted to flee the emergency room and with the assistance of the Bend Police was located a short time later and returned to the hospital.

McEvers was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and Reckless Driving and later lodged at the Deschutes County Jail.

This case is still under investigation and other charges may follow.
