News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

New skin care business opens in Sisters

Altitude and dry air, extremes of hot and cold - it all takes a toll on the skin. Diane Trammel can help.

She recently opened Sweetwater Skin Rejuvenation in the Sisters Art Works building at 204 W. Adams Ave.

Trammel brings a solid medical background to her business that provides particular expertise in identifying a clients needs and how to meet them. She worked for years as a nurse in Portland.

"When I lived in Portland I was a nurse," she said. "I just wanted a change. I've always wanted to own my own business; I didn't know what."

A friend who was an aesthetician suggested that she look into the field. She did and was soon on her way to Central Oregon and a brand new venture.

Sweetwater Skin Rejuvenation offers electrolysis for hair removal. Trammel also specializes in corrective facials - using enzymes and acids for exfoliation that encourages smooth skin. Sweetwater Skin Rejuvenation offers waxing, body treatments and aroma therapy.

While she loved nursing, it is a stressful profession where the nurse usually deals with people in crisis and not at their best. In her new venture, she is helping people to look and feel their best and it is enjoyable and uplifting.

"I wanted something fun and this is fun," she said.

Trammel offers a lot of one-on-one attention and is very attentive to her clients needs. For her, Sweetwater Skin Rejuvenation is about results, not just about a relaxing "spa" experience.

"I'm focusing more on results than relaxation. I want them to enjoy it, but I want them to see a change," she said. "I want there to be a difference."

Trammel notes that it is only in the past few years that people have come to realize the importance of skin health, not just for a better appearance but for overall well-being.

"I lived in the time when we put on baby oil and laid out in the sun," she said with a rueful shake of the head.

Choosing Sisters for her business was not a hard decision.

"We camped here when I was growing up and loved it," she said.

With her husband planning retirement, it was a good time to make a move.

"It was here or the coast and it's sunnier here," she said.
