Fund-raiser set for mission trip

A fund-raising dinner, raffle and auction to help support mission work in the Philippines is scheduled for Saturday, December 15, at 6 p.m., at Three Sisters Fellowship Church.

Pastor Mike Boswell, whose brother Manny and sister-in-law Heather are currently full-time missionaries on the island of Mindanao in the city of Davao, will be leading a trip that includes a number of church members January 16-30.

The team will be involved in supporting a number of activities, including work with a maternity center, a youth ropes course program and churches in and around Davao City.

The evening will include a pasta dinner, musical entertainment, a brief overview of the plans for the trip and a raffle and auction for beautiful pearl sets (necklaces, earrings and bracelets) from the Philippines.

"We have a number of pearl sets that are valued between $45 and $130 and others that have not yet been appraised," said organizer Kim Barry.

The suggested donation for the event is $10 per person or $25 per family, which includes dinner and one ticket for the raffle. Additional raffle tickets will be available for $1 apiece or six for $5.

Team members include the Dan and Marlene Bray family, Gary Lovegren and his daughter Rachel, Lance Piatt and his son Torrey and Mohini Haken. In addition, Debbie Stevens and Ron and Kim Barry may make the trip.

Boswell looks forward to the opportunity to be of direct help to his brother and the ministry he is leading there.

"To go to foreign lands and city to city is like what the apostle Paul did," said Boswell. "He went out and encouraged and strengthened the disciples working in other parts of the world, and I feel that is what we will be doing with our two weeks in the Phillipines."

Three Sisters Fellowship is a Foursquare Church affiliated with Westside Church in Bend. Boswell says the local church is dedicated to mission work.

"Jesus loves people, and that love is what motivates us to bring his love and life to those in need," he said.

The maternity program helps the delivery of over 100 babies a month and provides care that is far better than the government health care facilities in the area.

"Some of the women will be working alongside the mid-wives and other caregivers," said Boswell.

The team will organize the delivery of much needed supplies to the ministry in addition to other activities. During two mountain village outreaches, team members will be serving the people through light medical care, first aid, health education, children's ministry and prayer ministry.
