News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters Space Age gas station is getting a face lift - one intended to bring better service and greater convenience to the customer. The station's five old-style gas pumps are being replaced with three state-of-the-arts units. Two will pump gasoline; one will offer diesel.
The new pumps will do the same job that five did before, said Jacob Bedawyi, owner of the Sisters Space Age franchise. Although the new pumps will not necessarily pump gas any faster, they will be far more convenient. Customers will no longer have to come into the station's convenience market to pay.
"They can use their credit card at the pump and won't have to wait in line. We used to control everything from inside," said Bedawyi. "Now, the employee outside pumping the gas can do everything outside. It's more
electronic."
The change has been in the making for a long time.
"We've been talking about it for two years, but they (Space Age) got serious last year," said Bedawyi.
Although having no gas to sell right now is very hard on business, according to Bedawyi, the installation of the new pumps was a necessity and specifically scheduled at this time of year.
"It's slow anyway," he said.
During the construction project, the Space Age market is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"I might be forced to close because of construction. I hope not," Bedawyi said.
After the new pumps are installed, the station will resume normal hours of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
