Business helps Sisters get organized

If getting organized is one of those things on the "to-do" list, La Cresa Scherrer is ready to help. The Cloverdale resident recently started Creatively Organized, a business Scherrer says is an extension of a natural talent.

"I was the kid with the clean side of the bedroom," she said.

She's been helping family and friends with organizational ordeals for years and has a genuine interest in helping others find balance and order in their personal spaces.

Scherrer is offering a taste of her services with a complimentary Treasure Mapping session to be held at her well-organized home on Tuesday, January 29 at 2 p.m. The class is a time for participants to formulate priorities and goals and set them up in a creative way using collage. The result is a treasure map that can be placed in a prominent place as a reminder.

Once a person has some goals in mind and a map to follow, the task of getting organized to meet the goals becomes less daunting.

Looking at a client's needs with fresh and non-judgmental eyes is but one of Scherrer's abilities. Her happy combination of enthusiasm, positive outlook and persuasion make it easy to believe that anyone can become organized, even those of us who search high and low to find, well, nearly everything.

"People need to set boundaries, make a place for things," said Scherrer.

Each home needs to have a system that suits the home's layout and occupants. Scherrer talks with clients on the phone to ascertain their basic needs before she turns up at the home. She comes prepared to work but doesn't haul out the work gloves and black garbage bags until she's taken a good look at the spaces she's working on.

She maintains that a fresh perspective is one of the most helpful services she offers. Most people are very surprised at the ways they can re-use the things they already have. Scherrer also has a contractor's license, so she is able to take things apart and rebuild if necessary.

Scherrer is a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO). The group offers continuing education and support to organizers and an assurance to clients that their organizer knows what he or she is doing. Members sign a code of ethics and become certified to a national standard.

Scherrer's talents are not confined to the home. Garages, barns, outbuildings and workshops are all spaces she delights in sorting out. No matter where one goes to work or relax, she feels that order brings peace, something that is often absent in many harried lives.
