News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Sisters salutes...

• The Sisters Kiwanis Club honored Sandy Goodsell and Ron Roach as "Everyday Heroes."

When Sandy Goodsell moved to Sisters, she contacted the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce to find out where she could volunteer. Since then, she has been involved with the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and almost every other chamber activity. She received an award for her tireless involvement with the Sisters in Sisters annual event.

Ron Roach received the award for his involvement in the computer room at Sisters Elementary School and his volunteerism with the chamber. His assistance in the Sisters in Sisters event for the past 10 years and for being the very first volunteer to work on this program was commended by the members of the Sisters Kiwanis.

Recommendations for this award should be directed to Suzy Ramsey, Chairperson for the Everyday Hero Award, 382-2296.

"Thanks so much to Tate Metcalf for honoring me with the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce's President's Award. I am a participant in the Ford Leadership series being held in the community and a recent learning was an appreciation for the assets in our community. Tate Metcalf has helped the Sisters Chamber transform itself from a super tanker that moved very slowly to a PT boat with more horsepower and speed. And under the leadership of Michael Robillard, we could be in for a white water adventure!

"Those two flat out get things done, and I will be a crew member for them anytime and row like a madwoman. We are blessed to have their passion and dedication in this community.

"I would also like to honor Todd Dow of High Desert Gallery and Bill Chiaravalle of Brand Navigation. While Todd is leaving the chamber board, he continues to participate in helping drive the marketing vision of The Sisters Country. Todd is truly gifted and pounds the pavement on behalf of this community like no one I know. And rarely does a community have the asset of a world class creative like Bill Chiaravalle. He and his team are helping this community lay a foundation that will pay significant economic dividends now and in generations to come."

• The Sisters High School Nordic Team thanks Hoodoo Mountain Resort, Hoyt's Hardware & Building Supply, Desert Orthopedics, Ray's Food Place and Sisters Coffee Co. for their support this season.
