Police investigate attempted arson

Deschutes County Sheriff's Office detectives are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest for an attempted arson of a vehicle on Wednesday, March 12.

The owner of a black Nissan Xterra passenger vehicle contacted police at about 4:30 a.m., from the Adams Roost Apartments, located at 173 E. Adams Ave., in Sisters.

The owner of the vehicle is a resident of these apartments. He reported that he had located a section of rope that had been placed into his gas tank and lit on fire in an attempt to burn his vehicle. The rope had been saturated in some form of accelerant which failed to burn completely into the gas tank of the vehicle and burned itself out, according to police.

The vehicle was parked in the parking lot near the apartments at the time of the incident. Damage to the vehicle is believed to be minor at this time. Deputies and detectives with the sheriff's office are conducting an ongoing investigation into this incident and ask anyone with the public having information regarding this case to contact the detectives division at 617-3393 or 1-800-3-DETECT.

A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and filing of charges of anyone responsible for this crime. All callers may remain anonymous.
