Outlaws suffer two tough losses on the diamond

The Outlaws baseball team scored a total of 22 runs in their last two games, but it wasn't enough to notch a victory in either contest. Sisters lost 13-12 at Mountain View on Wednesday, March 19. The Cougars came from behind in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win. Just one day later Sisters fell 10-9 in eight innings at home against Summit.

In Wednesday's contest against Mt. View, Sisters had a huge fourth inning that resulted in five runs. Taylor Davenport highlighted the inning with a two run homer. Nate Jackson hit a double to drive in two runs, and Chase Klient had a double for the fifth run. At the close of the inning, Sisters held an 8-3 lead over the Cougars.

Mt. View answered back in the bottom of the fifth with seven runs and took a 10-8 lead. At the close of the sixth inning, Mr. View held an 11-10 lead.

Tanner Hodges ripped a triple to right center field in the top of the seventh, and Sisters reclaimed the lead at 12-11.

Sisters was unable to hold back the Cougars in the bottom of the seventh. Mt. View got on base, and with runners at second and third, Klient caught a fly ball for the second out but then an error occurred on the throw.

"We short hopped the relay throw from Chase (Klient) to Jarred (Hasskamp)," said coach Steve Hodges. "The ball was bobbled, and the runner at second tagged up and scored."

Just a day later the Outlaws suffered a heartbreaking 10-9 loss to Summit.

Sisters was down 6-0 at the bottom of the fifth but then the offense came to life, highlighted by two big home runs. Jackson hit a three run homer to right center field in the fifth inning and in the sixth inning Hodges hit a three run homer.

Sisters scored nine unanswered runs and took a 9-6 lead heading into the seventh inning. The Storm scored three runs in the seventh to tie it up and added a run in the eighth for the win.

The Outlaws finished with nine runs on 11 hits and committed six errors in the contest. Summit scored 10 runs on 11 hits and held their errors to two.

"We're providing enough offense to win baseball games, but we're not doing well enough on defense," said Hodges. "We made costly mistakes and just couldn't close out to win. We have to do a better job of finishing."

Sisters will travel to Arizona and participate in a tournament March 24 through March 27.
