Silent auction planned for grad party

A silent auction will be the last effort in a year-long fund-raiser that has been raising money to pay for this year's graduation party for Sisters High School seniors. The event is slated for the FivePine Conference Center, on Thursday, April 17, from 5 to 7 p.m.

"We are hoping to raise $4,500, which will put us in the good (meeting their goal of $16,000). We'll be really comfortable with that," said fund-raising committee publicity chairman Renee May.

All, whether or not they are parents of 2008 graduating seniors, are invited to attend the all-adult party. According to May, the committee hopes for approximately 150 attendees.

Wine and hors d'oeuvres are included in the ticket price. Tickets are priced at $20 for one or $35 for two. They will also be sold at the door for $25.

Music will be provided by Reno and Cindy Holler. Cindy is a counselor at Sisters High School, and Reno teaches Social Studies and serves as the Activities Director at Summit High School in Bend.

"Primarily we are a 'play by request' group," said Cindy.

Reno plays by ear.

"He knows just about anything and everything under the sun," she added. "We have piles of books of lyrics, so even things we haven't done before that we have the lyrics for, if he knows how it goes he can just play it right there."

The silent auction will include golf packages at Aspen Lakes and Black Butte Ranch. Metolius River, lodging and meal packages will also be auctioned. Art projects created by SHS art students in Mike Baynes art class are predicted to be the highlights of the evening.

For the first time, the Sisters High School graduating class will be bussed over the mountain to Portland for a riverboat cruise on the Willamette followed by a "lasertag" party. The students will then return to Sisters early Saturday morning for breakfast at the high school.
