News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws took first place honors at the seven-team tournament held at the Tokatee Golf Course on Tuesday, April 1.
Sunny, warm weather made it a beautiful day for golf. Sisters finished with a team score of 370. Cottage Grove was runner up at 450, Thurston third at 517 and Marist fourth with a score of 525. Elmira and Sweet Home both had incomplete teams.
Lindsay Reeve led the Outlaws with a 43/42 for a total of 85. Alexis Wainwright was four strokes back with a 45/44 for an 89. Ocean Powell carded a 46/50 for a 96, and Emily Rawls scored a 54/46 for an even 100.
"Emily's back nine play improved by eight strokes," said assistant coach Dick Wainwright. "She's showing consistency, good improvement in her game and the ability to make adjustments to improve her round."
Wainwright and Rawls got two birdies for the round. Both players birdied the 17th hole, which is a tough downhill par 3. The girls both drove the ball approximately 91 yards and then hit the six-foot putt for the birdie.
Assistant coach Wainwright told The Nugget that the entire team played very well and was very consistent.
Just one day earlier the Lady Outlaws were scheduled to play in the Bend Invitational at the Bend Golf and Country Club. Due to the inclement weather, Bend Golf and Country Club wasn't yet open for the season and the site was changed to the Resort Course at Eagle Crest. The sun was out, but players had to face very cold and windy conditions.
Sisters came in second with a score of 374 in the nine-team tournament. Summit (defending 5A state champions) took first by just six strokes with a team score of 368. Crook County finished third at 383. Other team scores were as follows: Mt. View (393); Dalles-Wahtonka (425); Pendelton (426); Hermiston (450); Bend (454); and Madras (605).
Reeve (39/49) and Wainwright (41/47) both finished with an 88. Ocean Powell carded a 45/52 for a 97, and Rawls shot a 55/46 for 101.
"Lindsay (Reeve) had a great front nine," said Wainwright. "She struggled with the weather conditions on the back nine but finished sixth overall."
"Emily (Rawls) really improved on the back nine," said Wainwright. "She was the last one in, and the weather conditions were worse. She had to really battle the wind, and she did a great job adjusting."
The Outlaws were to play at Eagle Crest at the Resort Course on Tuesday, April 8 and then travel to Arrowhead in Molalla two days later.
