Hit-and-run report proves unfounded

Early reports on Thursday afternoon were ominous.

Police believed that a man had been hit by a car on Adams Avenue, right in front of the Sisters Art Works building. The driver had allegedly fled, and the victim had been flown by Air Life to the hospital. An attempt-to-locate was put out with a description of the supposedly fleeing vehicle.

Sheriff's deputies and Black Butte Ranch Police cordoned off the scene, and detectives were called out from the Bend sheriff's office.

After interviewing several citizens, investigators concluded that the initial report was unfounded. The hit-and-run never happened.

According to police, the injured man was not hit by a car; he fell hard on his face while walking his dogs on the street. Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the incident. Someone made up the hit-and-run story. The incident remains under investigation.
