News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Owning her own business is old hat for entrepreneur Tami Jones. The Sisters resident brings worlds of experience and a wealth of creativity to her latest venture. Metamorphosis Hair and Skin Renewal, LLC. The new shop is located at 161-C N. Elm Street, next to Cork Cellars Wine Bar & Bottle Shop.
Jones moved to Sisters with her husband and children four years ago from Marin County, California, where she also owned her own beauty shop.
"I did hair and facials and nails. As I got busier I just didn't have time to do all, especially running my own business with 10 other employees," she said.
For Jones, a fast-paced, multi-employee shop that worked so well in Marin County is not only unfitting for Sisters, it also would reinforce the frantic California lifestyle that the entire Jones family plotted to escape by moving here.
"We just moved up here for a simpler life," Jones said. "We wanted something that was not so hectic, not so crazy."
Creating the new business has truly been a family affair for Jones, her husband Kent and their three children.
"My husband did all the work in here for me. My 12-year-old helped build the cabinets. My five-year-old had the shop vac and picked up all the dirt, and my seven-year-old swept everything. It was really the family getting it ready, and we're all so proud of it," she said.
Currently, Jones works on her own, with the help of a part-time, licensed assistant. She does hair and facials, as well as photo facials with the use of a laser.
"The heat and the light get rid of sun damage plus restores your collagen level in your skin. I do acne treatments with the laser and permanent hair removal," she said. "I do microdermabrasion. It's kind of like a sand blasting of the skin. You're not bruised at all. All the stuff I do is non-invasive."
Before opening her new shop Jones worked at High Desert Hair Co.
"I have kept the same phone number that I had over there. I had my own line over there," Jones said, noting that her move has caused no break in continuity for her clients. "They still just call me on my line."
Jones is building a clientèle that spans Central Oregon. Two regularly come from Burns to take advantage of her services and spend the day shopping in Sisters.
Client Heidi Thompson told The Nugget why she thinks people come to see Jones from all over: "I've referred tons of people because I think she's really, really good. She's always up to date on the top fashions and trends. She keeps up to date with her schooling. She's excellent with color. Her hair cutting is superb, and just her friendliness makes her at the top of her profession."
