Central Electric Cooperative (CEC) is planning to build a new substation in Tollgate over the next two years.
Tollgate residents will get a look at the preliminary design and proposed work schedule at a meeting on Wednesday, April 23, from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Tollgate Recreation Hall.
CEC plans to replace the existing 12.5 MVA transformer which sits next to the west fire exit in Tollgate with a 25 MVA transformer. The project is part of an upgrade from 69 kilovolt power to 115 kilovolt service. The changeover comes as the Bonneville Power Administration shifts from 69kv to 115kv on a portion of its electrical grid.
Controversy erupted last summer as CEC put up tall steel power poles along the edge of the subdivision, replacing old wood high line poles. Residents complained that CEC did not fully explain the impact of the new steel poles and heavier cables. They argued that the new poles detract from the beauty of the area and reduce property values.
Several CEC officials will be present at the April 23 meeting to explain the subdivision project and answer questions.
