News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws golf team earned a first-place finish at Middleton Golf Course for their third straight win of the season and then earned a second place finish at Broken Top in Bend two days later.
Sisters finished first with a team score of 337 at Middleton on Tuesday, April 15, an amazing 68 strokes ahead of runner-up Cottage Grove (405). Sweet Home finished third at 518, and both Creswell and Elmira had incomplete teams.
Lindsay Reeve led the Outlaws with a score of 79. Alexis Wainwright carded an 83, Shelby Ross an 85, and Emily Rawls finished with a 90.
Assistant coach Dick Wainwright said: "The girls were all very consistent and played steady on both the front and the back. We're at a good pace heading toward districts."
Two days later the Outlaws took second at the 10-team tournament at Broken Top in Bend. Bend took first-place honors with a team score of 339. Sisters was runner-up at 362, and Crook County and Summit tied with a score of 364. Remaining scores were: Mountain View (396); Hermiston (416); West Salem (425); Pendleton (430); The Dalles Wahtonka (431); and Madras at 480.
Claire Mutchler had a career round of 84 to lead the Outlaws. Reeve finished three strokes back at 87. Wainwright carded a 95, Ocean Powell a 96, and Rawls finished at 101.
"Claire (Mutchler) was in a zone today," said Coach Mary Flande. "She played with confidence and poise the entire round. I'm happy for her. Her hard work and 'can do' attitude is really paying off for her."
Flande told The Nugget that Reeve had a great back nine (41) after struggling a bit on the front nine (46).
"As a team we struggled some with the temporary greens that were needed because the golf course is just starting to become playable after such a hard, cold winter," said Flande. "I'm proud of the girls. They gave it their all today and placed second among a good 10-team field."
The Lady Outlaws will travel to Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville on Friday, April 25.
