News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The girls tennis team finished fourth out of six teams at the Madras Invitational on Saturday, April 19.
Hood River dominated in both the singles and doubles matches to finish first with 16 points. Madras was second with 11, and Crook County and Burns tied for third with eight points. Sisters scored seven points in the tournament for a fourth-place finish, and Sam Barlow finished fifth.
Number-two singles player Maddie Green won three of her five matches for the day.
Coach Marti Dale said: "Maddie was very even and consistent in her play, especially on her returns. She'd get it right back, and then her opponent would miss."
Tori Carlson and Nicole Veloso (No. 2 doubles) won two of their five matches.
Dale said: "Tori and Nicole are gaining confidence every match they play, and today gave them good match experience."
Marissa Tosello (No. 1 singles) played in her first tournament of the season and won one of her five matches. The number-one duo of Ashley Garau and Tori Miller also won one of their five matches.
"It was a fun tournament," said Dale. "It ran like clockwork. People were respectful, and there was good sportsmanship all around. It was very, very cold, but once the girls got warmed up they played well."
Two days earlier the Lady Outlaws lost 7-1 to Junction City.
Maddie Green played No. 3 singles and was the lone Outlaw winner for the day. Green defeated Bree Slaeker 6-1, 4-6 and 6-2.
The Outlaws will host Crook County at Black Butte Ranch on Thursday, April 24.
