News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws bounced back from a three-game losing streak with a big 12-3 win at Redmond on Tuesday, April 22.
For the first time all season, Sisters faced an opponent that spent more minutes in the penalty box than they did. The Outlaws were in the penalty box only 3.5 minutes, whereas Redmond spent 21 minutes in the box.
"We've been in Redmond's shoes, and whatever hopes they had to win were smothered in the penalty box," said Coach Bill Rexford. "We showed the strength of our team tonight as we cleared the bench and saw strong contributions from every player."
Sisters controlled all aspects of the game and racked up 12 goals on offense. Nate Emberton, for the third consecutive game, scored five goals for the Outlaws. Ashton Sims and Carroll Gryder each scored two goals, and Jordan Kolb and Marcus Gaboni each contributed one. Emery Meyer also scored a goal for Sisters, his first goal ever in four years of varsity play.
"I've started on defense for four years and have never really had the opportunity to score," said Meyers. "This year Coach Rexford implemented a special offense if the opposing team has a player in the penalty box. I move from the defense to midfield and do get a chance to score. Every game we're in that situation, I say I'm going to score a goal and I never do. So, today it was pretty fun."
Sisters has high hopes to make a run for the playoffs and realizes that to do so they have to come through in tight situations. The Outlaws have suffered five critical losses that have come in the fourth quarter.
"We've either been up in the fourth or within two goals," said Rexford. "Somehow, we need to show a little composure in tight situations and win one these close games. If we can learn to do that, I think we can make a run for the playoffs and knock off some really good teams."
