Outlaws win six straight before unlucky loss

Sisters shut out Marist 8-0 at home on Thursday, April 24, to notch their sixth consecutive league victory for the season.

That winning streak came to a quick halt with a 1-0 loss to Elmira the very next day. On Saturday, the Outlaws bounced back and earned a 4-3 win at home over Scio High School.

In Tuesday's shutout over Marist, Max Stovall hit a RBI single in the first inning to get the Outlaws on the scoreboard, and at the close of the inning Sisters held a 2-0 lead.

Brandon Morgan's double in the fourth inning was the big highlight of the game. With two outs, two strikes on the count and the bases loaded, Morgan rippled a double down the left field line to score two runners. Sisters pushed to a 7-0 lead to close out the inning.

The Outlaws capped their scoring with one more run in the fifth. Tanner Hodges went 2-2 with a double and recorded three RBI. Nate Jackson went 3-4 Morgan was 2-4, and Stovall went 1-2.

One day later the Outlaws lost 1-0 in a heartbreaker against Elmira. Hodges pitched a one-hitter for Sisters. Elmira's one run came in the fifth inning on a blooper that fell just over the shortstop's head.

Sisters' Jackson had a chance to score in the seventh inning but was caught in a run-down heading for home base.

"It was an unfortunate set of circumstances that transpired," said Hodges. "It was definitely a broken play that shouldn't have happened."

Sisters came from behind on Saturday to earn the win over Scio. The Outlaws were down 3-0 in the fifth inning and came back to score three runs in the sixth to tie it up. Jarred Hasskamp hit a double in the sixth to drive in two runs and then scored on a Shawn Heagney single.

In the seventh Morgan doubled and Hodges hit a sacrifice fly to score the winning run.

Hodges and Jackson were the only Outlaw players to have hits in the game.

Coach Steve Hodges told The Nugget that he checked past records after the Outlaws' game against Cottage Grove last week and to the best of his knowledge found that Hasskamp's no hit/shut-out game was the first ever in the school's history.

The Outlaws are currently 6-2 in league, which puts them in second place just behind Marist. Overall, Sisters is 10-10. The Outlaws will host La Pine on Friday, May 2, and on Saturday travel to Grant Union in John Day for a non-league game.
