Cory McCaffrey added another jewel to his athletic crown at Saturday's Dick Baker Invitational held at Gladstone High School.
He was named athlete of the meet among jumpers and runners. McCaffrey turned on the afterburners to win the 100 meters, anchored both relays to victory and won the long jump.
It was all in a day's work for one of Oregon's best prep athletes. McCaffrey captured the 100 in 11.25 seconds, won the long jump at 21-feet-5-inches, and left no doubt in the outcomes of the relays (44.5 and 3:32.08).
There were no other individual winners among the boys, but a number of athletes placed among the top eight to help the Outlaws finish second behind the Bulldogs of North Bend. Team scores were not available.
The girls team also finished second, scoring a lot of points in the sprints and jumps as usual.
The final regular meet of the year for the Outlaws is scheduled for Friday, May 8 at Cottage Grove. District will take place at Marist May 15 and 17 with the top two finishers in each event advancing to the state meet.
