Outlaws golfers take second at Tokatee

The Outlaws golfers finished second (313) in their final league tournament of the season which was held at the Tokatee Golf Course on Thursday, May 1. Marist, the Outlaws biggest foe, took first with a score of 298. Other scores in the tournament were: Cottage Grove (353), Junction City (358), Elmira (372) and La Pine (400).

The Outlaws were led by Michael Reeve, who finished with a 74. Evan Mitchell carded a 78, Cody Farr-Baenziger a 79, Jonathan Standen an 82 and Aaron Simundson rounded out the scoring with a 91.

"The weather helped us with our play today at Tokatee," said Coach Jeff Barton. "Michael (Reeve) and Evan (Mitchell) seemed to break out of their funk and turned in good scores. I feel like we've got some momentum heading into districts but Marist will be very difficult for us to catch."

Four days earlier the Outlaws were one of 11 teams to compete at the Bend Invitational which was held at the Bend Golf and Country Club. Cleveland won the tournament with a team score of 322. Bend was runner up at 325, Pendleton took third (330) and Sisters and Summit tied for fourth (333).

Reeve, Standon and Mitchell all carded an 83 for the Outlaws. Farr-Baenziger shot an 84 and Simundson a 93.

The course was difficult for the Outlaws. Players had trouble with the narrow fairways and the greens. Due to the harsh winter, parts of the greens were dead which made it very difficult to putt.

Last week the Outlaws participated in two invitational tournaments, placing 15 out of 22 at the Trysting Tree Invitational in Corvallis on Wednesday, April 23, and third out of nine teams at the Summit Invitational one day later.

The Outlaws endured horrible weather at Wednesday's match in Corvallis with winds gusting up to 35 mph and rain falling sideways. Wilsonville took first place honors with a team score of 314 and Sisters finished at 348.

Michael Reeve led the Outlaws with an 81 and Evan Mitchell scored an 87. Cody Farr-Baenziger was one stroke back of Mitchell with an 88. Jonathan Standen carded a 92 and Aaron Simundson finished with a 98.

On Thursday, April 24, the Outlaws played well under cold and windy conditions at the Rivers Edge Golf Course in Bend. Bend won the tourney with a score of 317 and Summit placed second at 321. Sisters was third (332), Hermiston fourth (346) and McKenzie fifth at 350. Other scores were: the Dalles-Wahtonka (357), Crook County (363), Madras (382) and Mt. View (386).

Farr-Baenziger led the Outlaws with a 79 and Standen was close behind with an 82. Reeve carded an 85, Mitchell an 86 and Simundson rounded out the scoring with a 99.
