News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters High School Junior Varsity softball team closed out their season on Thursday, May 8, with a 16-6 victory over Cottage Grove to capture the Sky-Em championship.
The win gave the Lady Outlaws an 11-1 record in conference and a 16-4 overall record. They closed the season with a 10 game winning streak.
"This is a very young team that just got stronger as the season progressed," said Coach Matt Macauley.
Timely hitting and strong pitching were the keys to the team's success this season. The Lady Outlaws' pitching was led by Zoey Wavrin, who finished the season with a 15-3 record. Every one of the players helped with their bats this year.
The Outlaws were diverse on offense; power hitting came from Paige Bruigler, MJ Shulte, Kayla Gryder, Aubrey Pepperling, Mandi Alderman, McKenzie Trammel and McKenzie Gellings. Jordan Richerson and Amy Yoder worked hard on improving their skills as drag bunters and slapping the ball to all fields.
Cammie Patterson, Chelsea Roberts, Becca Pelham and Britney Crawford showed great signs of improvement over the year.
"Credit needs to go to coach Kurt Lange for helping the girls with their improvement," Macauley said. "He grew up playing softball, and has been coaching kids in Sisters for years, including his daughter Amy who was a very good pitcher for Sisters High School."
