News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

There's a new bank in town

South Valley Bank & Trust couldn't wait to start doing business in Sisters.

The 30-year-old bank will soon have a brand-new brick building in the shopping center where the new Ray's Food Place is currently under construction. But the bank decided to come to town early and moved into a temporary location at 704 W. Hood Ave., Suite B, next to XPress Printing.

"We just felt like Sisters was ready for another bank in town and we were ready to go," said Marcea DeGregorio, the new Sisters Branch Manager.

DeGregorio said she expects to be in the current location till the beginning of 2009.

"We hope to break ground on our new building within the month," she said.

South Valley Bank & Trust was founded in Klamath Falls and has expanded throughout Oregon, focusing primarily on rural markets. While it is billed as a business bank, individual accounts are welcome under the philosophy that "your account is your business."

The bank offers a full range of services, including mortgages, commercial lending, trust work and investment.

In addition to DeGregorio, the branch is staffed by teller Jackie Merten and operations supervisor Rochelle Johnson.

The bank is service oriented and proud to be a little old-fashioned in its approach.

"This is banking as it used to be," said Johnson.

DeGregorio concurred.

"It's going to be really fun," she said. "We're really excited about it. We want to offer everybody good old hometown service."
