Tisdel to open for folk singer Greg Brown

Sisters songwriter Brad Tisdel will open for acclaimed singer-songwriter Greg Brown in a performance at the Tower Theater in Bend on Saturday, May 17.

"It's a great opportunity to open for someone I consider to be an icon of acoustic music," Tisdel told The Nugget.

Brown is a perennial favorite in Central Oregon. The gravel-voiced singer-songwriter is a cult figure on the folk music circuit and has had his work recorded by luminaries such as Willie Nelson and Carlos Santana.

Tisdel is well-known in Sisters for his role in developing the Sisters Folk Festival's Americana Project. He is also the executive director of the Sisters Folk Festival.

In addition to wearing a variety of hats in promoting the festival and roots music education, Tisdel is a talented singer-songwriter and a two-time finalist in the Sisters Folk Festival songwriting contest. Last year he released a CD of new material titled "On Your Way."

Tisdel said he will draw largely from that CD for his half-hour solo set on Saturday.

However, he said, "I'm going to bust out at least one new tune."

Tisdel is excited to be doing the show at the Tower.

"Cameron (Clark, promoter) always puts on great shows," he said. "I'm sure the sound will be great and the room is a beautiful place to play."
