News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters High School varsity girls softball team recorded more all-league honors than in any previous Outlaws season as seven players received all-league recognition in a vote by the Sky-Em League's seven coaches.
Leading the way were juniors Jenny Kaiser, Hillary Renz and Jenna Sneva and senior Sam Stoneback. Each was honored first team All-League. Only league champion and No. 1-ranked Marist had more first teamers than Sisters, registering five. Marist also had three on the second team with the Outlaws getting a pair.
Two Outlaw seniors - Ashley Huber and Camille Pedersen - were named to the Sky-Em League's second team and freshman McKenzie Cooper received honorable mention.
Marist's Kayla Braud was Sky-Em Player of the Year for the second straight year and Marist coach Bob Hammit was named Coach of the Year. Braud, a junior shortstop, led the league in hitting with a .690 batting average and on-base percentage at .710. Braud is working on a 69-game hitting streak.
Kaiser, a junior center fielder, had the Sky-Em's third highest league batting average at .516.
Renz, a junior first baseman, was third in the league in scoring, with a team-high 22 runs (Braud led the way with 39). Renz hit .459 in league and drive in 11 teammates.
Sneva was a repeat first-teamer as an infielder. The junior batted .375 and had an on-base percentage of .560. She played second and shortstop this season.
Stoneback was a first-team unanimous pick as a pitcher - as she was a year ago as a junior. She had a 7-2 Sky-Em League won/loss record and a 1.45 earned run average - third best in the league in 2008 with her 48 league strikeouts, she was third in the Sky-Em. Marist freshman Nyree White had 150 strikeouts in 65 innings and an 0.10 ERA, allowing only one earned run in a dozen league wins. She was 12-0 and allowed only 15 base hits.
Pedersen hit .378 in the Sky-Em and was second on the Outlaws with 13 RBI in league. The senior catcher also hit two home runs.
Huber, a senior outfielder, led the Outlaws in RBI in league play with 14 and batted .375.
Cooper, who played second and third this season, batted .361 and scored 14 runs.
