Outlaws lacrosse falls in playoffs

The Outlaws lacrosse team lost 12-4 at home to the Jesuit Crusaders in the second round of the state playoffs on Tuesday, May 20.

Jesuit boasts a big, strong and fundamentally skilled team which proved to be more than the Outlaws could handle.

Jesuit took control of the game early. Within the first two minutes the Crusaders scored two goals to take a 2-0 lead. Just a few minutes later Carroll Gryder wove through several defenders and scored to narrow Jesuit's lead to 2-1.

The Crusaders again moved down the field and shot directly at the goal. Keeper Thad Anderson made an incredible save and blocked the shot with his feet.

But the Crusaders were able to score again to push to a 3-1 advantage. With less than a minute left in the first quarter Ashton Sims scored off a feed by Gryder. Jesuit held a 3-2 lead at the close of the first quarter.

The Crusaders scored five goals in the second quarter and held the Outlaws scoreless. At the half Jesuit had pushed to an 8-2 advantage. Gryder scored another goal for Sisters in the third quarter but the Crusaders tacked on four goals of their own and went up 12-3.

The game became very physical and both teams spent time in the penalty box.

Sims scored Sisters' fourth and final goal in the fourth quarter and the game ended in a 12-4 loss which brought the Outlaws' season to an end.
