Lacrosse players earn all-league honors

Ten players from the Outlaws lacrosse team earned all-league recognition this season - the entire starting line-up.

Seniors Nate Emberton (attack), Dominic Nieri (midfield), Emery Meyer (defense) and Thad Anderson (goalie) were all first-team picks.

Emberton was the team's go-to guy for scoring and was always an offensive threat when he was on the field. Coach Bill Rexford told The Nugget that Emberton's 62 goals this season will set the standard for many years to come. Emberton displayed outstanding stick skills and was a fierce competitor.

Nieri was known for his incredible stamina and his ability to stay on the field without a break.

"Dom is a workhorse, and what he lacks in refined skills he makes up for in heart and desire," said Rexford.

Meyer was the Outlaws' vocal player on defense, kept communication open and also was very adept in his stick skills. According to Rexford, Emery has a true love for the game.

Rounding out the first-team picks was goalie Thad Anderson. Anderson was Sister's primary keeper and he made many incredible saves throughout the season.

"It takes a man to stand between the pipes and stare down shots up to 80 mph on a daily basis," said Rexford.

Second-team honors went to Ashton Sims (attack), Carroll Gryder (midfield) and Shawn Maurer (midfield).

Rexford told The Nugget that Sims is a truly unselfish player who always puts the team goals before his own. Gryder is a first year lacrosse player and to earn second-team recognition is a testament to his athleticism and passion for the game. Maurer is a solid all-around midfielder who played great defense and contributed on offense as well.

Marcus Gaboni (attack), Slater Smith (defense) and Chad Kernutt (defense) were all honorable mention.

"If Marcus hadn't been hurt and missed part of the season, I'm sure he would have been either a first- or second-team selection. He was a huge part of our attack. Slater is a heady player who could run forever. He clears well, runs hard and just frustrated the player he was covering. Chad got better and better with every game and turned into a solid and dependable defender," Rexford said.
