Quilters "Wish Upon a Card" in Sisters

Sisters quilters are bringing their passion for stitching to bear in the fight against cancer.

For the second year in a row, local quilters have created fabric postcards, which will be sold at silent auction during the week-long run-up to the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, starting at the Around the Block Fiber Arts Stroll on July 5.

The proceeds will be donated to the Wendy's Wish Appeal of St. Charles Cancer Center.

Last year's project pulled in $6,000, according to Quilt Show Executive Director Ann Richardson. This year, organizers hope to raise $10,000.

About 200 quilters have participated in the project, Richardson said.

"So far, we have about 700 (fabric postcards) and we expect 1,000," she said.

In fact, Richardson said, some quilters still haven't turned in their work.

"We need those postcards back," Richardson said. "We're accepting them through July 1."

The fabric postcards are actual four-inch-by-six-inch postcards.

"They're fabric on the back and you can write on them and mail them," Richardson said.

Not all of them are likely to be mailed, though. A jury selected 50 postcards for framing. High Desert Gallery donated framing services and those postcards, too, will be up for silent auction.

The Quilt Show is set for July 12.
