News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The annual Sisters Kiwanis fund-raising golf tournament always makes for a nice day of sport in a good cause.
For Matt Everson, last Saturday's event proved to be a major payday.
Everson teed off on Hole 8 at Aspen Lakes, using a pitching wedge for the 160-yard drive. Hole 8 was a special hole; it was the hole on which the Kiwanis Club of Sisters purchased hole-in-one insurance and offered a $10,000 prize.
Everson said he had a little tailwind and his shot "just kind of tracked right into the hole." He watched it all the way in.
With that shot, Everson's first hole-in-one, the cash register rang to the tune of $10,000.
"I honestly don't know what the first thing in my mind was," he said. "It was more yelling and screaming than anything else."
Everson, the son of Dr. Greg Everson of Sisters, grew up here and has been playing the tournament for some 14 years. He's planning on returning next year.
